The megawatt unlock: The road to electrifying North American heavy freight
By Erika Myers Executive Director, North America – CharIN , Martin Archambault Business Development Manager, Fleet Electrification – Hydro Québec, William Marshall Freight Program Manager – Electrification Coalition, James Carter Principal Consultant – Vision Mobility

To replace diesel, a Class 8 electric truck must recoup 400 kilometres of range during a driver’s typical 30-to-45-minute break – a feat that requires charging equipment capable of delivering more than 1 MW of power. While current CCS standards function well for regional delivery and depot-based return-to-base operations, they create a bottleneck for long-haul heavy freight. This session explores the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard and its essential role in enabling zero-emissions trucking at scale. Speakers include the Electrification Coalition, who will discuss U.S. corridors in development; Hydro-Québec, which is deploying its first megawatt charger this summer; and CharIN, who are developing the global standard for MCS. Together, they provide a practical look at how we power up our highways.

While 2025 was a record year for public fast charging development in Canada, charging providers have faced major barriers getting stations in the ground. As former Expo speaker and behavioural scientist Loran Nordgren reminded us, progress doesn’t stall because of a lack of ambition – it stalls because of friction. Across the country, deeply embedded, system-level barriers are slowing the rollout of charging infrastructure at the speed and scale required. On the ground, that friction shows up as outdated municipal bylaws, inconsistent permitting requirements between jurisdictions, delayed utility connections or months lost to seemingly minor approvals – each adding cost, uncertainty and risk. In many cases, these delays are enough to undermine an otherwise viable private investment, and they can be especially challenging in areas that remain underserved with fast charging infrastructure. For municipalities, utilities and charging providers, this session will help you identify where friction lives in your systems and what you can do to remove it. The biggest takeaway won't be technology, but how we can modernize the processes and coordination needed to enable Canada’s electric future and unlock private charging investment.

Financing fleet electrification: Understanding EV fleet-as-a-service models
By Stephanie Medeiros Head of Mobility – Schneider Electric, Nisreen Rawdah Business Development & Strategic Partnerships Lead – Ivy Charging Network, Alessandra Bernard Project Engineer, Transit, Bus & Fleet – WSP in Canada, Gabriela Favaron Director of EV Infrastructure – 7Gen

One of the big advantages of electrifying a fleet is cost predictability: electricity prices are regulated and EVs typically require far less ongoing maintenance than diesel and gas vehicles. Yet the business case often stalls when fleets confront the cost and complexity of building and operating their own charging infrastructure – from hardware and software to site design, installation and long-term maintenance – or the higher upfront vehicle cost. By bundling some of these elements into a predictable monthly payment, charging as-a-service (CaaS), electric vehicles-as-a-service (EVaaS) and energy-as-a-service (EaaS) models are creating a simpler pathway for fleets to plug in. This session explores how each of these models work, how they shift capital expenditures into operating expenses and how they reduce risk by guaranteeing uptime and performance. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of what EvaaS, CaaS and EaaS each cover, when they makes sense, how contracts are structured and how this approach can improve project economics while accelerating fleet electrification.
