Volvo Cars knows from its own research how sticky EVs are: typically drivers who adopt do not revert back to combustion. But getting customers into vehicles with plugs for the first time takes more than a great product. In this fireside chat, Matt Girgis, Managing Director for Volvo Car Canada walks through the strategies Volvo is using to drive customers to make the switch. That includes electrified vehicle programs for their own workforce, transparent and digitized retail and pricing models and consumer-centric industry partnerships, alongside innovative digital tools for EV education.
When manufacturer support disappears or isn’t available locally, who keeps the vehicles running? As the service partner for multiple automakers, TRUCKPRO & NAPA NexDrive are equipped to handle both in-warranty repairs and support fleets facing the challenge of EVs whose OEM is no longer providing warranty service. Featuring technicians on the front lines, we’ll cover how third-party shops are stepping up to keep these orphans running, including heavy-duty platforms like Lion Electric.
As Canada’s focus on affordable EVs brings a new wave of drivers to the road, the pressure is on to deliver charging infrastructure at scale. But the country’s next charging roll-out has to focus on performance and driver experience, and of course charging that simply works. In this fireside chat, the panel will explore what it means to move beyond early deployment into a more mature ecosystem — one where hardware manufacturers, software platforms, and network operators work together more closely than ever. The conversation will dig into what the best partnerships consistently get right, how public investment and private capital are shaping Canada’s charging landscape and what the industry must deliver to earn the trust of the next generation of EV drivers.
Driven by a mission to make electric vehicle travel possible across remote northern Manitoba, this talk shares the story of building a First Nations-led EV charging network from Winnipeg to Thompson – a close to 800 km route, with chargers strategically placed every 200-300 km. Learn how community partnerships and creative problem-solving brought high-speed chargers to these Indigenous communities at no cost. Kent Heinrich will walk you through hard-won lessons from installations at Grand Rapids, Fairford and other First Nations communities, including how to tackle utility upgrades and other grid challenges, curtail demand charges and solve for internet connectivity and oongoing maintenance, with insights applicable to other remote and underserved locations far beyond Manitoba.
New York City exceeded its target of reducing the emissions of its municipal fleet by 50% last year, marking one of the most dramatic demonstrations of public-sector leadership in fleet decarbonization. The city’s approach provides a practical blueprint not only for municipalities and public agencies, but also commercial operators. In this keynote, DCAS Deputy Commissioner Keith Kerman explains NYC’s bold, multi-pronged strategy that creates true transformation in the vehicle fleet – and the market. NYC has partnered with all levels of government, non-profits, utilities, commercial fleets and manufacturers to achieve its Clean Fleet goals. NYC’s approach has actionable lessons on technology adoption, supplier engagement, operational readiness and the collaborative models that can accelerate electrification at speed and scale.
Are you a light- or medium-duty fleet operator in Alectra Utilities’ service territory? Time is running out to apply for the AlectraDrive for Fleets program. If you operate electric vehicles, you may qualify for AlectraDrive for Fleets, a limited-time program that includes expert advice, subsidized L2 chargers and incentive payments for making our electric grid more reliable. This program illustrates how utilities and fleet operators can collaborate to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles. Supported by funding from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the IESO Grid Innovation Fund, the program serves as a demonstration platform of fleet electrification in a manner that is mindful of grid capacity. In this session, Alectra staff will walk through how the program works, who is eligible and how fleets can participate. You will also learn about the program’s broader education and engagement programming to help fleets build the operational knowledge needed to electrify over the coming years.
Few automakers have made as dramatic a global push as China’s Chery International, and few are better positioned to speak to what’s next in EV innovation. In this keynote session, Farzad Salehi, Senior Counselor for Chery International’s North America Region, takes the stage to share the technological innovation and product development that have fuelled Chery’s expansion across six continents. He will also share the company’s perspective on the Canadian market and the opportunities ahead.
With the typical Canadian household receiving over 125 packages a year, last-mile delivery is now both a decarbonization challenge and a sector ready for reinvention. This session shares practical lessons from a logistics start-up running a fully electric, 20-plus-vehicle fleet in Kamloops, BC. Learn how to structure test drives that reveal a vehicle’s true operational fit and what really matters when comparing OEMs. Understand how to coach drivers to maximize EV range and how driving styles make all the difference. You’ll also hear how to properly spec charging infrastructure — from transformers and panels to chargers and software — based on real duty cycles rather than assumptions. Expect clear, candid takeaways on what works, what doesn’t and the keys to operating a best-in-class zero-emissions company.
