Richard Hughes started working in the Toronto Film and Television industry in 1989. He joined the Directors Guild of Canada in 1992 and became a location manager in 1996. Throughout his career he worked on feature films and TV series such as “The Santa Clause”, “The Long Kiss Goodnight”, “Owning Mahoney”, “American Gods” and Amazon’s “The Boys”.
In 2009, Richard opened The Backlot Film Studios to address a demand for studio space in Toronto. Being Green minded, the 50,000 sq ft building was retro-fitted to include an overhaul of LED lighting, investing in a cool roof and is proud to be the first film studio in Toronto to install EV charging stations in 2021. Since the studio has opened, it has hosted productions such as the mini series “The Kennedys”, Feature Film “Red”, TV Series “Schitt’s Creek”, “Rookie Blue”, “Taken”, “Sort Of”, “Run the Burbs” and “Pretty Hard Cases”.
